Hello,

My Labels are pretty messy, so each epic has tons of LABELS. But for my Dashboard I only want to Show some.

Say i have a two dimensional filter, y-axis is Labels, x axis is Reporter. now i am only interested in the Labels "beer" and "soup" but not in the Labels "Drinks" and "Beef". Is there a way to avoid that?

Best,

Paul

If the label appears on an issue in the filter you're using to feed data into a two-dimensional gadget, it's always going to appear on a two-dimensional gadget. At least without add-ons or custom code of your own, there isn't really away around this if you continue using the Labels field in the gadget.

Personally, I don't like using the Labels field for any type of reporting - I've found labels work great for temporary categorization, but anything long term beyond that, I would suggest tracking this data in a custom field. This would give you several benefits:

  • If you use a custom field, users can't add/remove label values whenever they want.
  • Labels can also vary slightly very easily because anyone using Jira has the ability to add/remove labels. Using your example, someone might use the label "Beer" instead of "beer" or some other slight variation. With a custom field, you define the values as an admin, so end users can only choose what you define as the field values.
  • Reporting would be cleaner - specifically, the two-dimensional gadget you have would work as you want it to.

Hope this helps!

Hello Alex,

I believe that is a great solution for People having System admin rights. I only have very limited admin rights on my space, and can not do such custimizations. I can unfortunately also not customize my Dashboards Code (as far as i know).

But thanks a lot for your insight! Maybe I'll put everything I dont want to see to components.

Best,

Paul

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, Components can be a good option for this, especially if you aren't using components already for some other purpose. I'd just be careful to use Components for tracking multiple things.

If you're able to, I'd see if you can get in touch with your instance's global administrator(s) to see if he or she can configure a custom field just for your project to use. It sounds like you really just need the one to solve your issue here.
