How to recover deleted folders ( Epic) which have child issues and sub tasks

I had created a filter and named it appropriately. From the top menu I selected Save as and renamed the existing filter. I found that now there were 2 filters; i began deleting the new filter contents, but stopped after 2. To my dismay, the original filter was also missing the two deleted folders.

The deleted tasks have child issues and sub tasks. and i need to link them; i am at a loss, need help., Thanks

Jira doesn't have "folders", but Epics are actually issues.

Jira does not have a waste bin (yet), if you delete something, it is gone, dead, shuffled off its mortal coil, deleted, ended, gone to join the choir invisible.

There is no "restore" unless you took a backup, and are willing to spend potentially weeks extracting the data from it.

This is why we always recommend not allowing delete issue to anyone.

Hi @Ebe

Another solution to this problem is Rewind - an automated backup and restore app available on the Atlassian Marketplace. It's free to try for 7 days:

I lead the team that built it so happy to hear any feedback you might have!

@Danny Grenzowski _Rewind_ While I am happy to try the Restore app, I also would assume that it would work from the time the app is dl and in future restoration attempts. Yes/No/Maybe?

@Danny Grenzowski _Rewind_ - Is there a cost associated with? If so then I need to escalate for approval. Meanwhile, I figured a way to get all the dox fit in for now.

I can also try the free trial in the interim.

Thanks for the tip.

Hello @Ebe

When you say you were deleting the "new filter contents" do you mean you were deleting the issues in the results returned by the filter? Or were you changing the criteria in the filter itself to change the results it would return?

If you were actually deleting the issues themselves by opening the issue and selecting the Delete option from the ... menu, then as @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- there is no way to recover that deleted issue unless you had a backup of the system.

If you were just changing the criteria of your filter and the issues no longer appear in the results, then the issues still exist. You just need to adjust your filter criteria to include them again.

@Trudy Claspill , As I mentioned in the description, I used Save as ( thinking that this only will be a copy of the existing filter) to rename the existing filter, but found a duplicate. I was not aware that deleting the duplicates will delete the original too.

I find that the child issues within the Epics that were deleted are still there. Now I have to figure out how to move them to new Epics ( I need to create new Epics to move).

@ Trudy Claspill,  I did not try to change the criteria or the results returned by the filter.

I wanted the results to be shown in asc order so i created a filter and saved them as such.

The title of the filter was not appropriate ( in this case it was - Order by : Key) so I attempted to rename it ( not possible or i did not know how) so I used Save As)
