You should only remove Locked status to fix problems within Jira Software. Such fields are locked to prevent accidental changes which can subsequently break the operation of JIRA Software.
Here you can find instruction to unlock those fields.

This is ridiculous! I need to edit the description of a field that is locked so basically I have to recreate the field and add back to all of the forms just to change the description. Complete nonsense!
