We have a process that recurs twice a year. How can I reuse or copy the project I have now created. I want to keep the old one but also use the new one with new dates and maybe adding some new steps.

Thanks!

The Deep Clone app can clone any set of issue, even complete projects.

It is rather flexible and very popular. Give it a try!

Hi @Bente and welcome to the community 👋

As @Aron Gombas _Midori_ was so nice to mention, you can try our app Deep Clone for Jira.

Deep Clone can clone your template project with its Project Clone feature. You can find a detailed step-by-step in our documentation here.

If you want to change dates, or other custom fields, while cloning, you can take a look at our Clone and Edit feature. You can even use Jira Expressions to set your dates dynamically.

Hello @Bente

If you're willing to use a third-party application, I can suggest trying our Elements Copy & Sync app that allows you to copy issues with all their content (summary, description, custom fields, comments, attachments, etc.) and their child issues.

You’ll be able easily to copy your entire project.

Don't hesitate to try our app, it's free during 30 days and stays free under 10 users.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Clara

Hi @Bente

It's Mary from Planyway

In JIRA, you can replicate an existing project for a recurring process while retaining the original project. Here's a general guide on how you can do this:

  1. Clone the Project Template:

    • Unfortunately, JIRA does not provide a native feature to directly clone or copy an entire project. You can, however, use the existing project as a template.
  2. Create a New Project:

    • Go to your JIRA dashboard and create a new project. You can select a similar project type to the one you're trying to replicate.
  3. Copy Workflow and Issue Types:

    • If your original project has custom workflows or issue types, you can reuse these in your new project. JIRA allows you to share workflows and issue types across multiple projects.
  4. Copy Project Components and Versions:

    • Manually add similar components and versions to the new project if they were used in the original one.
  5. Migrate Issues (if necessary):

    • If you need to replicate issues, you can use the 'Bulk Clone' feature to clone multiple issues at once and then move them to the new project.
  6. Adjust Dates and Add New Steps:

    • In your new project, adjust the dates as required. If you need to add new steps or modify the workflow, you can do so in the project settings.
  7. Use Project Automation:

    • JIRA’s automation feature can be highly effective for recurring tasks. You can set up rules in your new project to automate certain actions based on triggers.
  8. Documentation and Description:

    • Update the project’s documentation and description to reflect its new purpose and any changes from the original template.
  9. Add-ons and Integrations:

    • If there are specific add-ons or integrations that were essential in your original project, ensure they are also set up in the new project.
  10. Review and Test:

  • Before rolling out the new project for active use, review all settings and conduct a test run to ensure everything is functioning as expected.
