i am evaluating inisght discovery and installed the addon with an evaluation license.
I create empty shema for network Asset
how can I run the discovery and import the data into Insight jira?
Hi Johaina.
For the sake of the Community, I will try to explain the whole process of installation, configuration and using Insight Discovery in Jira, on Windows (please disregard obvious steps you may have already completed) :
You have to have Jira and Insight installed, as the first step.
In Jira, navigate to Jira Administration>Addons
If you've successfully installed Insight and then Insight Discovery, they will be available under Manage Apps.
In "Manage Apps", If you've copied a Valid Discovery License Key into the expanded Discovery Plugin, you should have a License for the Discovery tool generated as well - click the "Discovery License Key" in the Left Side Panel. The Discovery Tool License should start with "Vv..."
You will also have an option on the Left Sidebar for "Discovery Download" - this is where you download the Discovery tool Zip (this is the actual Network Scanner).
Extract the Discovery Tool ZIP into the desired directory - note that your Discovery will need to be able to Read And Write Data in this Directory.
Once extracted, access the Discovery Installation Directory from the command Prompt end execute "discovery.exe -s" to access the configuration Console. (you'll be prompted to create a password initially). In the Console, navigate to the last Tab - License; here, paste the license mentioned above ("Vv..." as was generated within Jira and shown in the "Discovery License Key" option).
A Valid license pasted in the Tab will show all license details below the license key field.
If all goes well up to here - you should now configure the Discovery tool for scanning (following our documentation ).
Once configured correctly - indicating the Patterns to be used, IP Scan range, and credentials to log into hosts in your network - you can test a scan simply by closing the console, then executing "discovery.exe" to run all Scan Settings or "discovery.exe -r 0001" to run only scan setting 0001...Depending on your settings and Network - this may take a while.
The Scan Results will be Zipped XML/s, and if no File Transfer was configured in the Console, the Scan Results will be found in your Discovery/scans directory, look for files named like: 2BE97_00002_2018-12-27_1447_0387.zip
At this stage, nothing was done in Jira yet.
If you wish to use the Discovery Tool as a Service - running per schedule - please click "Install Service" from the Service Tab in the Configuration Console. The Schedule is set in the "Scan Setting" Tab
The Discovery Tool will export the Scan Result Zip into an Insight Import Directory (if configured in the Discovery tool configuration Console>Common Tab: Export Type and Path); a dedicated Directory where Insight (Jira) has access to and Read/Write permission. If you haven't configured that, you can move the Scan Result Zip file manually from the Discovery\Scans folder to your designated Import Folder.
(!) Please do not Import from the Scans Directory. Note that the User Executing the Insight Discovery Import in Jira will have to have Read/Write Permission to the Import folder (!)
In order to import Discovery Scan Results into Insight, you must configure an Insight Import (a Discovery Import Type), and most recommended, in a New Empty Object Schema. At the end of the Import configuration wizard - we recommend to create a Predefined Structure and a Predefined configuration so you will be able to benefit from the full scope of data scanned by Discovery, without having to Manually configure a Structure. This Import can be configured to run daily - at a time you know the Scan has already completed, and the Scan Results Zip File was transferred into the Import Directory.
Note that a Predefined configuration will have some Object Type Maps disabled (e.g. Applications, Patches etc.) - Enabling these Object Types Maps will result in many more objects created when synchronizing the Import, as each Host may have many Applications and services installed... So we recommend to run an Initial Import with these Maps disabled, and once you have all your Hosts in Insight - enable the maps for the following import.
The Discovery Import will create 3 folders within the Import Directory - to store the Latest Import XMLs, Corrupt Data found and Older Imported XMLs.
Once the Import was Synchronized successfully, the Scanned information will be available in the corresponding Object Types created by the Predefined Structure in your Object Schema.
I hope this helps ;)
