I am trying to figure out how to automate creating back-ups for JIRA and the instructions in the knowledge base seem outdated...the current UI only has the ability to create manual backups.

Hi Mark,

Please take a look at the knowledge base article How to Automate Backups for JIRA Cloud applications. It provides the following solutions:

  • Use external bash scripts to generate the backup file and download it. You can schedule it using Cron or other available methods, depending upon the operating system used.
  • Keep in mind that backups can only be performed every 24 hours and are stored only for 7 days, so schedule it accordingly.
  • We have a sample script located at https://bitbucket.org/atlassianlabs/automatic-cloud-backup - it is provided as is, but feel free to raise issues or submit a pull request that might help to improve it or even fork your own scripts that you use to perform this.  This script is written in Bash so will only run on Linux or Unix.

There is an open bug related to some of the rest endpoints used in the scripts.  If you run into any issues please see JIRA backup script returns 404 in the new infrastructure.

In the meantime please vote on Automatic Backup generation in Backup Manager and add your use case to add impact.

Cheers,

Branden
