How to troubleshoot Cyrillic project names on Kanban in Jira?

We can use Cyrillic text in JIRA without a problem in issues text. But first time a local client has requested us to create a project with a name written in Cyrillic.
When I create a project, I see the following as a project name (question marks):
This is a screen shot from Kanban board. I see the problem is local to Kanban Agile board since everywhere else the project name is fine (Projects Dropdown, project properties page, etc.).
Please advise on the strategy to troubleshoot this problem. Thank you.
