How to view atlassian-jira.log

Jeremy Jedlicka July 29, 2024

We host our Jira Data Center with CPrime.  Whenever I need to review our atlassian-jira.log logs I always reach out to them.

Is there anyway I can self service reviewing these logs myself without direct access to the home directory?

Logs are part of the "support zip" in Jira.

Settings > System > Troubleshooting and Support Tools > "Create zip"

I like to forward logs to a centralized monitoring service like AWS CloudWatch, Newrelic, or Datadog. Those services make searching easier, and you can use them for alerting.

Using the "support zip" is a great idea, but the ZIP contains much more than the logs only.

If you need something more lightweight, with the ability of search and filtering right in the browser, you could try the Last Log app. It is quite popular among those with a use case similar to yours.

If you happen to have the ScriptRunner app installed, it offers the ability to view the last n lines of the various log files.
