I can't remove transition validator

I added a validator to a transition (fix version field needs to be modified) then decided we don't want that. However it still fires even after I remove it from the workflow and republish it. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Turns out I have a transition screen in the way. Got help from a local jira expert.

Since some projects have different workflows based on issue type, I would verify that the one you had changed is indeed applied to that project/issue type. Alternatively you can check to see if there are any lingering conditions that are being applied to the workflow.
