When I have a story with subtasks, I need to move the story trough WIP or only your subtasks?

How JIRA works and how this affect the metrics? Today I move just the subtasks and leave the Story in Sprint Backlog (or Backlog). When all subtasks are finished, I close the story, moving to done. Actually, the JIRA move it to me.

Both stories and sub tasks have their own workflows and they have to be moved separately through the work flow. Typically you would also want to move stories through the states of its lifecycle instead of just opening them and closing them.

But, when I move the story? When the last subtask is move as well?

Example: if the last subtask was move to doing, I move the story to doing too, and so on. Is that right? What you think.
