I want to remove an inactive user from a workflow

Steve Gilliard August 27, 2019

I have a Jira user who used to handle our QA requirements on jira tickets.  We automatically assigned this user to a ticket when a ticket was created.  When we try to create new issues now, we get the following error when submitting:

QA: User '<username>' is not valid for this user picker.

I've removed the user from Jira, but how can I go into the workflow and remove this picker?  I know I added this into our flow, but with design changes to the cloud version of the admin, I can't find this area as easy as I used to.

Thank you for any help you can provide

@Steve Gilliard  - Here's a quick video demo of editing a workflow post function: https://www.screencast.com/t/CcCSHfgPadx

Michael,

Thank you for your help, but when I go into the post functions, all are the generic ones that were setup by default.  I can't find one that is new or has the 'QA' function for adding the person to the ticket.

In that case it may not be a post function.  If you have already checked components as mentioned above then there may be some automation doing this such as Jira Service Desk Automation, Automation for Jira, or ScriptRunner.

You may need to check with other Jira admin for your Jira instance to see if any automations are in place.

Bob,

Thank you for helping.  I don't have any of those 3 tools in our setup.  I'm going to see if the Tech Support can help and possibly login to see the issue.

Thank you all for the answers, but I don't see anything clearly for "Post Functions" (see below).  I must be in the wrong place, but it used to be easier to find in the older view. When I click on workflows,

When I click on the Workflows link this is what I get:

I don't see anything for "Post Functions" . I do have admin rights to all projects and the application.

edit the workflow associated w/ the issuetype in question, click (select) the create transition, click on Post function.

Go to the workflow --> Edit the create Transition post function-->remove default assignee from the create transition and publish the workflow.

three possible scenarios to check

  • post function to set the assignee
  • component lead
  • automation

Hi  @Steve Gilliard

There are couple of ways this could be happening.  In the workflow it could be a post-function on the Create transition.

Here's the process for editing a workflow post function in Cloud:

  1. Select the Jira icon > Jira settings > Issues.
  2. Click Workflows.
  3. Select the workflow transition you want to change and click Edit.
  4. Click Post functions in the properties panel.
  5. Hover over the post function and click the Pencil.

However - You could also be using a component and using the default assignee.  If that's the case you can edit the Component assignee like so:

  1. As a project admin go to the Project Admin screen for the project and click on Components.
  2. On the 'Components' screen, open the menu in the Actions column for the component you want to edit, and select Edit.
  3. Edit the component's Name, Description, Lead, and Default Assignee in the Edit component dialog.
  4. Click the Save button to save your changes.
