If I delete an Issue Type does it delete the issues already logged? Hesitant to do it!!

Tristan Swenson March 3, 2020

Just as the question says, if I delete an issue type, am I going to lose all of the those types of issues in our project or will they be saved in their current format?

Hello @Tristan Swenson in order to delete an issue type, it mustn't be assigned to any issue type scheme. When you remove an issue type from one of those that is being used on a project, Jira will ask you to assign the existing issues associated to that issue type to another one that is valid for the project. Having said this, then the answer is no, if you delete an issue type from the instance you don't delete yours issues, but they will have to be changed to another issue type before actually being able to delete the original issue type

It's not recommended to delete an issue, only do if this is really necessary.

In this case, I recommend you close the issue and move it to a release that is not going to be used anymore or unassign all related content to the issue and then delete it.
