Hi All, Help required urgently..Iam a newbie and in my company currently using Jira version 7.11.0 configured with oracle 12.1.0.1 Database ,windows os and it have some new data with it. My task to import the old data from previously used Old Jira version(6.1.1) which has internal HSQLDB and this old jira setup is on different windows server .Can anyone please explain the process ,i got error when tried to export the Old jira6.1.1 data by Import & Export > Backup System which creates a zip with two xml files (entities.xml,activeObjects.xml)but on tried to import by 'project import' on current using jira 7.11.0 , shows error saying its old version data build number 6155 and currently running version build number 711000.Under 'External system Import' dont find an option for 'Zip'
Any help greatly appreciated.pls share any tool or plugin if required and is possible to migrate the data without update the jira version 7.11 further .Thanks
The xml import is fussy about not importing data from other versions of Jira due to data incompatibilities .
Sometimes you can force edit by editing the xml files.
But for 6.* -> 7.* there are differences you can't get around.
Are there reasons you don't want to upgrade the source system version?
The last time I had to migrate an old server through incompatible versions I did it in steps to provide a fall back position.
I created a staging server as a copy of the source.
Upgraded the staging server up to a version compatible with the target
Ran export from staging then import into target
The source server is intact as a rollback position if the process fails.
Thanks alot for your reply . i try that way..any idea about can we upgrade skipping any intermediate version or cannot skip versions and need to upgrade sequentially..any suggestion/advice on this part? Thanks
