Import Issue in CSV format with Target Start and Target Finish date

Alfred Tan August 17, 2025

Hi,

The Target Start and Target Finish date format is d/MMM/yy.

However, in Excel, when converting to d/MMM/yy, for September, in CSV file, it shows Sept instead of Sep.

This has caused all my September tasks not able to import into the Jira.

Please help if you know the trick.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Alfred Tan

Hi @Alfred Tan

This issue may be related to the system locale settings of your MS Excel application. If the locale is set to British or Australian English the abbreviation for September is "Sept" instead of "Sep".

Could you please check your configuration and change the locale to US English?
Another solution could be to use the Excel formula LEFT(string, number)" to convert "Sept" to "Sep".

Hi Carlos,

The 2nd solution is not working. As long as I save it to csv, the file automatically change it to SEPT.

for the 1st solution, could you advise where yo change the settings in excel?

Alfred

Hi @Carlos Garcia Navarro ,

I found the solution finally and here is the details.

Hope this post helps others as well.

To change your Excel regional setting to English (US), you don't necessarily need to find a specific button in Excel itself, but rather adjust your Windows settings. you can follow these steps:

1. Open the Control Panel.

2. Ensure that "View by: Category" is enabled.

3. Select "Change date, time, or number formats".

4. Choose English (United States) as the format and apply the changes by clicking "OK".

Additionally, it might be helpful to check the language settings for non-Unicode programs:

1. Click Start > Control Panel > Region and Language > Administrative.

2. Check if the Current language for non-Unicode programs is set to English (United States). If not, click "Change system locale" and select English (United States), then click OK and restart your computer. To change your Excel regional setting to English (US), you don't necessarily need to find a specific button in Excel itself, but rather adjust your Windows settings.

Hi Carlos,

Hope below give you the overall picture about the problem.

In my excel, there is no such d/MMM/yy format type when I  change my Locale to English (US).

The format this dd-MMM-yy which not acceptable by the Jira field.

Also, at the File>option >

There is no Regional setting in my Excel.

I change the language to English (US) as default, it also never solve the problem.
