In JIRA, how do we specify that a particular bug/change needs a release note?

If you need to include a bug/change created on JIRA to be included in Release Notes, is there a way to specify that in the issue itself?

You can do it several different ways:

  • Have an issue type of Bug With Release Notes
    • Have a workflow has release notes as a step associated with this issue type
  • Have a custom field that you mark when release notes are required

A lot of it has to do with your business process and how you would like to enforce it in JIRA.

Thanks for your response.

But for all three options you suggested above, I see that these need to be custom-added and does not come as a default. Also I do not see that JIRA I am using is configured to allow me add this as a custom field.

To be more precise, I wanted to know if JIRA provides a default option that can be selected or provides a text field where we can enter it as a value from a list.

Please suggest if you see one. Thanks.
