In Portfolio, What is the difference between Light Blue and Dark Blue Bars?

Deleted user January 29, 2018

Hello,

I am fairly new to Portfolio products and I have a question which may seem to be very simple.

When you look at the Visualizer in Portfolio, there are some epic Bas that are Light Blue and Some that are Dark Blue.  I first thought that if an Epic was in Progress, then a light blue bar would turn to DarkBlue, but I noticed that is not the case.

Can Someone please educate me on this?

Many thanks

Hi Mohsen! How are you doing?

I was curious about that too. I found an explanation on the documentation: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jiraportfolioserver/using-the-timeline-802170554.html

Dark blue work items are estimated, and are thus scheduled by the automatic scheduling mechanism in Portfolio for Jira.

Light blue work items are unestimated, but are scheduled because these have either a sprint, a release, or targets dates assigned to them.

Hope this helps!

another note for this, if you have an epic that is scheduled and you know has pointed work in it, but is still showing the light blue bar it could be because the pointed stories for that epic are completed, thus there are no open points on the epic. Hope that makes sense as it was an issue I ran into!
