Installation fails on licensing

Two years ago my laptop was used for the Jira 30 day trial, then Jira not used since. Just bought the server install licence and got a key for my own machine server ID. Unfortunately I cannot install Jira because it insists I should update the expired trial version first rather than just enter a new key for the newer installation. Worse still, I do not have the admin login for the old (uninstalled) Jira that seems to be leaving some licensing data on my laptop despite having been uninstalled.

Has anybody encountered this before, and has a solution I might try? Many thanks!

Hello @Sean Smith,

Please check the services in your computer and be sure Jira is not running in your computer. If you do not need the data in Jira, you can delete everything in your jira-home directory(Not the jira-home, delete everything inside of jira-home). After that, start your Jira again and you can set up your new Jira instance with new key.

Thank you Orkun, this was helpful. I forgot to mention that I am working on Windows 10, so the actual folders are under the C:\Program Files\Atlassian folder but with slightly different names.

By deleting the child folders under that folder, after uninstalling Jira, I was able to do an install that would accept my new licence key.
