Intermittent error displayed when ranking items in Kanban Rapid Board

When I drag an item on my list to be either a higher or lower rank, I sometimes get the following error message:

JIRA Agile cannot execute the rank operation at this time. Other users may be ranking the issues that you are trying to rank. Please try again later.

I know that no other users are currently ranking the issues when I attempt to.

Any idea how this can be resolved?
