Is it possible to deactivate a tempo work log attribute without deleting it?

When a work log (custom) attribute has been added to the tempo work log configuration, and at a certain moment you do not want to use the attribute anymore, you could delete it. But that would also actually delete the information from the existing work logs. 

Is there a way to deactivate this work log attribute so it is not visible anymore on the log work screen, but keep the historical data in the existing work logs? 

for now I have renamed the attribute, but it looks a little sloppy to having to leave it like that.
