Is it possible to lock a custom field but leave it visible?

Hi everyone,

Is it possible in Jira to "lock" a custom field so that users cannot edit it any longer? We'd also like to keep the custom field visible for few weeks (until we complete the migration from the custom field to "Fix version" field) hence the "hide" option (from the Field Configuration tab) might not work.

unfortunately this is not possible with Jira out-of-the box. You will need an add-on. Alternatively as a work-a-round, you could remove this  custom field from Issue Edit Screen, only, and add a restricted (conditions) transition to your workflow (with a transition screen with this custom field), where the field can be modified. The custom field is then visible - but only editable by a few users.

Thanks Thomas, I might just hide the Custom field for now and see whether the workaround could work.
