Is there a default way to transition epics?

Hi guys, is there a post function or something I can place on my story workflow that will transition the stories epic from Open -> In Progress?

If possible id rather not have to add a plugin for this.

I know you prefer no plugins, but scriptrunner can do this easily. I know of no way to do this out of the box.

Thanks, was hoping that wasnt the only way as I doubt I can get the cost signed off for 100+ users just to make reporting a bit easier for me!
