Is there a difference between assignee being "EMPTY" & unassigned?

All of a sudden my Kanban board no longer brings through & thus display Unassigned tasks auto-created via the email handler above assignee swimlanes.

I have had to update my board filter to include where "assignee is EMPTY" to bring them through.

Therefore is there now a difference between an unassigned task that is manually created within a project (this does come through as expected in my Kanban board before the filter change) and one that is auto-created?

Dear @Jo Bland ,

I just verified this on Jira 7.13.5. assignee is EMPTY returns unassigned issues. So my guess is that you created a "dummy" user named "Unassigned" that is aut-assigned when createing issues. Have a look at your user directory, if this one exists.
