So far, it looks like they are ordered by Summary, but for our purposes it would be better if they were ordered by their statuses, as we have multiple statuses in the same column.

have you tried to update your kanban board filter to use Order by Status, this should solve this issue.
or use sort by rank but then you will have to order them manually for the first time then each time a new ticket comes in you have to drag it to the right spot.
last option might be is to create separate swimlane for each status.
