Hello!

I have created a form within Project X, and now I have created a new project called Project Y. How do I export the form from Project X such that I can later import it and use it within Project Y?

Hi @Paolo Marangio

Great question — and you’re not alone in looking for a smoother way to reuse forms across projects.

If you're using Jira native forms, there’s currently no built-in export/import or form template sharing between Jira Software projects. Each form is created and stored per project, so unfortunately, you’ll need to manually recreate it in Project Y. It’s a common limitation users run into.

If you’re open to using an app:

With Smart Forms for Jira, forms are global — meaning:

✅ Once a form is created, it’s automatically available across all projects and issues
✅ No need to assign or recreate the form — it’s just there
✅ Forms move together with issues when issues are cloned or moved to another project
✅ You can optionally auto-add forms to specific Work Item Types within a project if you want them to appear by default

So if you're managing multiple projects or teams, Smart Forms can help you save time and keep everything consistent.

Hi @Paolo Marangio ,

Are we here talking about filled in form on a specific ticket, or just built form which is connected to specific request type?

If you'd just like to copy form from one project to another, you can use "Copy to project" action and then additionally edit that form in destination project if required.

Hi @Tomislav Tobijas , thank you for the prompt response!

I just added a screenshot so you can have an idea of the kind of Form I am talking about. It's just a Form associated with one of the 4 basic Jira Types as shown below.

I am not able to see the "Copy to project" button in my Jira. Can you explain the steps I need to follow to recreate the screenshot you sent? Maybe it's only available for Admins?

Best regards,

Paolo

Ah, thanks for sharing additional info @Paolo Marangio !

What you're using are software/business forms and what I was referring to were Jira Service Management forms.

Forms in Jira (software/business) can only be manually recreated (there's no copy option). I've tried checking open JAC suggestions, but I couldn't find anything related to this.

I'd recommend reaching out to Atlassian Support to discuss this further. They can, based on your discussion, open a new feature request on which you can vote and monitor.
If they do so, please share the link here 🙏

Cheers,
Tobi
