Is there a way to re-arrange subtasks?

I have a list of subtasks assigned to a story, they are the children. Is there a way to re-arrange the subtask list to show top down which one needs to be done before the other?

Hi @Edmond Melkomian . We've just launched our first iteration of subtasks and we will be iterating on this in the coming months. Ranking subtasks is on the list and we'll be using feedback like yours to help us prioritise what we deliver next so thanks for reaching out.

You can find more info about subtasks and what's coming next on the dedicated next-gen community group https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Next-gen-articles/Introducing-subtasks-for-breaking-down-work-in-next-gen-projects/ba-p/1105389

It  also sounds like you might have other questions/feedback about next-gen so feel free to add them on here and I'll get back to you. We could also set up some time to chat in person if you are keen?

Thanks

Thanks Eoin, there are lots of features in the classic that seem to be missing from the next-gen. Since you state that the team in the next sprint will be looking at some of the features, like re-ordering subtasks, and we are running the cloud version, when would we expect some of these features?

I can talk to the team and manager here, something in me wants to stick by next-gen, not sure how difficult would it be to switch to classic.

I am willing to write use cases so your team can understand how will we use the product. We really give good advice, we use agile tools for over 11 years and do software development, so our experience may come in handy for the team there.

Thanks @Edmond Melkomian - can you send me an email at eryan@atlassian.com and we can try find a suitable time to do a video catchup?

Hi Edmond,

Subtask drag 'n' drog feature was introduced on Jira 7.6.x version. Which version are you using?

Subtasks drag 'n' drop

Until now, the only way to reorder your subtasks was to use the up and down arrows, which was really painful, especially with long lists of subtasks (we've heard your feedback, and experienced it ourselves!) Now, you can drag the subtasks and drop them anywhere on the list, and use the time we've saved you to do more awesome stuff.

Thanks the quick reply Jack, we are using the cloud version, not on-prem. Do you know if that feature is available for the cloud version?

Yes, it is.

Ok I can't do it

I create the story, I create the children, but when I try to move a child (drag and drop) it doesnt let me.

Please dont tell me I am using next-gen, and thats the reason.

I am using next-gen/JIRA cloud/stories/subtasks.

Hi Edmond,

You are absolutely right. My previous comment does not applies to next-gen projects.

You can only have this feature on Server or Cloud Classic projects.

Kind Regards.

Ugggh.. I am about to throw next-gen out the door, I wish I hadn't chosen it, woe is me.
