I'm trying to make it easier to update common fields on Issues by mass exporting specific stories to CSV file. Once the file is exported, the goal is to modify the data as necessary and then use the import stories from CSV ability to re-import the modified CSV file as the new Jira Story. The export works just fine, but when I go to rewrite the stories the Import tool creates new stories with new Issue Keys instead of rewriting the existing stories I want to change. In other threads I've seen this issue resolved by mapping the Issue Keys in the Excel template to the Jira Issue Keys, but when I'm using the Import tool, Issue Key isn't a valid value I can map to. Is there a way that I can mass import the stories I exported and then modified back into Jira and rewrite the original data?
When importing modified stories back into Jira, ensure that the Issue Key column is included in your CSV and matches the existing Jira Issue Keys. Jira's import tool typically does not allow mapping Issue Key for updates unless you have Jira Admin or Bulk Edit permissions. To update existing issues instead of creating new ones, select "Map field value to Jira field" during import and ensure the Issue Key column is recognized. If the Issue Key field is missing, check that "External System Import" is being used instead of the standard CSV importer, as it allows updating existing issues. Also, ensure that the CSV contains all required fields, including Summary, since missing required fields can cause Jira to create new issues instead of updating existing ones.
Hello @Caleb Muhlestein
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
What is your level of access for the Jira instance? Are you a user with no administrative access? Are you a Project Administrator, or a Jira Product Administrator?
The Issue Key field is available for mapping only to users that have access to the Jira Administration settings.

@Trudy Claspill I am a Project Admin but I don't believe that I have access to Jira Administration settings. Is there a workaround or is it simply not possible without the high-level admin permissions?

Hello @Caleb Muhlestein
With only the natively available functionality, that feature is restricted to Jira Admins.
There might be other third party apps that could assist, if you search the Atlassian Marketplace. I don't have any recommendations since I have not had to fulfill such a requirement in my environments.
