Is there any restriction on Jira custom field quantity?

We have about more than 1200 custom fields now in our system. I want to know if there's any restriction on custom field quantity. Does too much custom fields have influence on system function? How do you suggest on controlling custom field quantity?

Hi @Jason Liu

Wow! that is a lot ;-). There is no limit from Atlassian, you can have as many as you need, but this will impact in your system performance. Check this guide from Atlassian (Managing custom fields in Jira effectively | Atlassian Support | Atlassian Documentation).

There are some good practices you can apply:
- Use contexts

- Re-use custom fields instead creating new ones

- Try to standardize your processes / screens

Hope this helps!

Cheers.

Hi @Jason Liu ,

With every Jira release, we’re publishing a performance and scaling report that compares performance of the current Jira version with the previous one. The report also contains results of how various data dimensions (number of custom fields, issues, projects, and so on) affect Jira, so you can check which of these data dimensions should be limited to have best results when scaling Jira.

Hi Ollie, so is it better not to over 1400 custom fields?
