Hi Shannon

You can relate two issues via issue links in your project. So if I say I need a level above Epics called feature.  I can have that issue type created and link it to multiple epics in a way to follow the hierarchy ->

Feature -> Epic -> Story -> Sub-task.

However you will not be able to stories to epic from your jira board as you do with epics.

I would say adding stories to feature will not be a correct thing to do as I would say the feature is the bigger part of the agile process, that will be broken down to epics and epics will in turn be broken down to stories and henceforth.

You can create specific links if you want that would define the relationship between your Feature and Epic and can select this specific issue link when linking them.

But there seems to be a way (I havent tried this though) where you can make your agile board treat any issue type as Epic and to do that you an refer this link where Eugene has put in the ways to go about it->https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Epic-Feature-Story-Hierarchy/qaq-p/324165

Epics are the largest chunks of work within Agile development. I've never seen Features broken down into Epics. It is the reverse.

In Jira, to follow SAFe's simplest work item hierarchy (Epic->Feature->User Story->Task), you need to enable the Feature Issue type in the tool. However, there is no option then to create a User Story directly under a Feature. You still have to go to the Epic to create a new User Story and then link that new story to an existing feature. This is very cumbersome. This is a big gap in the tool because as i'm planning my work i'm thinking about Features in terms of a few months of work, and then directly breaking them down into User Stories for sprint execution.

Hi Shannon,

Just to clarify, do you mean the create issue within the Epic/Story as show below?

and is the "Feature" is one of the issue type you created?

Cheers, Syauqi
