Issue type duplication

Deleted user April 12, 2019

Hi--

I am having a strange problem with Jira.

Currently, I am using the same workflow scheme and issue type scheme for 5 projects.

  • When I want to create an issue in any of my 5 projects, I see multiple Story type issue types. (Screenshot 2)
  • If I go to issue types from project settings, I can see 3 types of story standard issue types. (screenshot 3)
  • If I go to issue type scheme from Jira settings-- I can see single- Story standard issue types (screenshot 4)
  • When I go to Jira search, select my 5 projects-- I can only see single- Story standard issue type (screenshot 5)
  • But-- I can see a different Story in the search with a different Icon. (screenshot 6)
  • however, I can change them from one story to another story type (weird) (Screenshot 7)
  • When I go to issue types from Jira settings, I can only see one Standard default Story (screenshot 8)
  • Currently, I am using the same workflow scheme for 5 projects (screenshot 9)

Questions:

  • How Story (default standard issue type) got duplicated?
  • How to remove duplication for story standard issue type?

Same workflow scheme and issue type scheme is associated with all 5 projects.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hi Tawhid, here are my thoughts on your two main questions:

How Story (default standard issue type) got duplicated?

This is something that most likely was done by an admin. To determine what might have happened, navigate to the Audit Log (<base-url>/auditing/view) and search for "issue type created story". This will give you a history of what happened here, and who/what created those duplicate issue types.

How to remove duplication for story standard issue type?

This will be a very manual process, but here is how I'd approach it

  1. Find the custom field IDs of the duplicate Story issue types
    1. Navigating to Administration -> Issues -> Issue Types
    2. Click Edit
    3. Get the ID value from the URL. So for https://<base-url>/secure/admin/EditIssueType!default.jspa?id=11306 the ID would be 11306.
  2. Search for issuetype = <ID> for each of the IDs identified in the previous step to see where they are being used.
  3. For each project, do a bulk change with the query project = <project name> AND issuetype = <ID>, changing the issue type to the correct Story.
  4. Search for issuetype = <ID> again to confirm you have fixed all of them.
  5. Delete the issue type.

Good luck :D

Hi Alex--

Thank you for your answer.

Story type issue didn't get duplicated because someone created Story type issues.  It got duplicated for some other reasons.

If I go & search for issue types-- I can only see Story as a standard issue type (no duplication) - (Check screenshot)

Thanks,

Tawhid
