Issues and sub-tasks estimation and work report

Mateusz Kurleto February 1, 2012

I have a following problem. I have my project divided into use cases that I have estimated time for. Those Issues are then divided into sub-tasks and sub-tasks are assigned to different people. Can I track time (estimation vs work report) on high level? F.e.:

User Profile (use case) - EST 5 days

- user data - EST 3 days, assigned to UserA

- password recovery - EST 1 day, assigned to UserB

- manual test - EST 1 day, assigned to UserC

each user will report his/her work on a sub-task (user data, password recovery, manual test) and i would like to know if I can make JIRA automatically update ESTIMATION and WORK REPORT for a higher level issue - User Profile

That sounds like you need the standard, built-in time tracking.

You create an Issue at the top level, create sub-tasks, put estimates on the subtasks, and then look at the top level issue - you will see that top-level issue now includes all the estimate data on the subtasks. You don't need to do anything other than enable subtasks and timetracking.

Or have I misunderstood the question?

Thank you for quick reply. I am just starting with JIRA and lots of stuff is unclear. Have 2 weeks left of evaluation and need to decide finally it it works for us:)
