I am currently working on a project that uses five different Jira boards for managing certain tasks. We have uploaded close to 200 issues. Everything was going well until earlier today one of the boards no longer showing any of the issues either in the active or in the backlog. Nothing was changed in the settings and the other four boards all have normal backlogs and active sprint views. All of the boards are in test view. Any insight on how to fix this issue to be able to view our active sprint and backlog from all of our boards would be much appreciated!
Hi Arman,
something must have changed, whether by you, someone else or the system itself (unlikely). The first thing to check is the filter that describes the board. Go to board settings and General tab then click on the filter. See if the filter returns any issues when it is used in the advanced issue search. If this is a Kanban board please inspect the sub-filter to see if maybe it is excluding issues.
feel free to share your filters and any further info that might help us assist further.
Hi @Jack Brickey and @John Funk
I appreciate you both taking the time out to write up responses. I have included some screen grabs of our board's settings for further insight. The quick filters are not active, but are necessary for the board's display. I didn't see anything that would impact the display of the stories (unless I'm just missing something). The interesting thing to me is that when I clicked in to "Edit Filter Query", the details show all of the issues (more than I originally thought) in the project, which I highlighted in the final screenshot. Any additional thoughts would be much appreciated!

I see this is an old case, but I came here in 2022, so I'll respond anyways for people to come.
This may not be relevant, but it also may be.
I had a similiar issue, where suddently ALL issues didn't show on the board.
After a little panic-googling (ending up here), I realized I had just made changes to the fields (Issues - Field Configuration). I had hidden some of the fields that I found unnecessary for my project/team and it turned out that one of the fields I had hidden made all the issues disappear from all boards (for me it was Fix version field). After showing it again, all issues came back.
I fixed the issue by removing the Sub-filter on my boards to not contain anything about Fix version (Board settings - General - Sub-filter). Then I hid the Fix version again.
Not sure if this helps anyone, but check your fields just in case.

@Marte Kristoffersen , same thing. Do you know how solution you suggested works for new Kanban projects created created after you hide unnecessary fields second time?

I have just experienced this and can relay my workaround here.
I am using a Jira Service Management - Team Based Project on Jira Cloud.
I have noticed the following behavior:
- Older tasks go missing in Board view.
- Same tasks are not missing in the List and Issue view. I can find them by searching for them manually by key or title but only in these views.
This lead me to believe that Board view has some issues with indexing results for too long, if nothing has changed on them in a while. I have proceeded to find some of these missing issues and edit something simple in one of the fields, such as the Reporter or the Start Date. Immediately after updating any of the fields of the issue, it has reappeared in the Board view. This is independent of the status the issue is in. It will disappear after a while regardless if it's in `Work in Progress` or `Done` states.
As a workaround for this issue, I've created the following automation.
Every 2 hours, it removes the Reporter and then sets it again to `Automation for Jira` for every issue in the project. This may cause some slow performance but at least all my tasks are there in Board view when I want to see them.

Hi Arman - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Yes, I agree with Jack - either something changed with the filter for the board, or maybe the sub-filter was changed or added.
Also, you might want to be sure there are no Quick Filters selected - I have seen that before, too. If it only happens for you and not others, that's a pretty good indication.

@Arman Nazari - is there a Sub-filter below the Projects in board section of the Board settings that is not shown in your screenshot?

The screenshot of the backlog is below. I created a test story in that backlog that appears, but nothing else does. One of our other board's backlogs has also been starting to be affected and doesn't show issues outside of our current sprint.

So, what's different about the Test issue that shows up from the other issues on that project?
Sorry for so many questions, but this is really strange behavior. I feel that there is a value in a particular field somewhere that is keeping the issues off of the board.

I'm honestly not sure. My guess is that it displays because I created it in that board. I just tried moving an issue from a different board into the first status of the board that is giving me trouble and it appeared in the Active Sprint. When I went to see if it had populated itself in the backlog as well, it did not. I've gone in and out to find differences between the various boards and can't come up with any differences between the boards that would cause this issue.

Have you looked at all of the values in all of the fields in both the Test one and one that does not show up?
Do they use the same Project? The same Issue Type, etc.?

The Test board is the one that isn't working. I just compared the Test board to one of our other boards and checked one more time that all settings are the same for the boards. All boards are linked to the same Project. We varying types of Issues, but I don't think that should cause any problems seeing as our other boards are able to handle all the issues. Not really sure where to go from here.

Sounds like it's time for a support ticket to Atlassian. :-(
