JIRA Studio versus stand-alone applications (Bonfire/JIRA/Greenhopper, etc)

With JIRA Studio being restrictive (imports, customization, etc) is my company better off just using the individual applictions?

And if we do use the individuals, is there a way to link them all together to create a "virtual Studio", minus teh Google Apps integration?

Even if you decide to use Individual Application, you can integrate them. For example - http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Integrating+JIRA+with+FishEye

You can even use Crowd to integrate with LDAP.

There are a few things to keep in mind though before selecting the on Premise version -

• Studio gives you the above integrations out of the box.
• No server maintenance on your side
• Regular software updates, which might take weeks if on Premise and also could be cumborsome.
• Faster implementation, you can start using the system with in hours.
• You can concentrate on the process than implementing the system.
• In case of any downtimes, you get expert support and that too faster than on Premise. So, the team can get back to work faster.

These were the factors that we considered when we decided to go for Studio. Moreover, you always have the option to move from Studio to onPremise anytime.

Be careful as you will *not* get the nice studio integrated look and feel, or navigation bar. Each tool will look slightly different and users must manaully jump between tools.
