JIRA + Windows Integrated Authentication

Hi I have a question regarding the use of Windows Integrated Authentication with JIRA.

I'm currently reviewing JIRA and Confluence for a client and one of their requirements is to have the ability to log into JIRA and Confluence via a user’s domain user account. In my research it would appear that Confluence has the ability to utilise windows integrated authentication in order to bypass the logon screen as mentioned in this documentation http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/SPCON011/Access+Confluence+using+Integrated+Windows+Authentication+via+IIS#AccessConfluenceusingIntegratedWindowsAuthenticationviaIIS-SupportedPlatforms. JIRA on the other hand doesn't seem to have this ability unless Crowd is used.

The client wishing to use JIRA has a very large network hosted application server with potentially hundreds of applications on it. All applications on the server that require a login utilise windows integrated authentication. Therefore I don't think they would be to impressed with having to buy another application license simply to do the authentication for JIRA.

I was wondering, is there a way to use Windows Integrated Authentication with JIRA that does not require Crowd?

My aplogies, I've done some further investigation and discovered that you can include an active directory user list in the list of JIRA users. I'm assuming that logging into JIRA via a domain user sends authentication data to the domain controller for authentication. This is great. Users can then simply check the "Remeber my login on this computer" which will bypass the login screen for a particular user. I believe it should do the trick for what I'm looking for.
