I want to install a local copy of the JIRA help documentation on my closed network. Is it really necessary to buy & install Confluence just to get these help files?? (I actually don't know the difference between JIRA & Confluence anyway...)

Additionally to the above mentioned, you can download the documentation in different formats here.

Hi there,

Just to better understand this, here are the definitions for both of these tools:

JIRA - A bug tracker tool , where you can easily track your companie's priorities, issues, bugs, and everything else.

For further explanation take a look at this page: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/overview

Confluence - A software where you can organize, discuss and document anything you want! It has a "wiki" interface and it's great to improve communication and documentation quality!

For further explanation take a look at this page: http://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/overview/team-collaboration-software

Regarding to your question, these are completely different tools, and you can choose what fits best for your company! As you've mentioned you are looking to document JIRA's features, Confluence would fit great for you. Just notice that this tools can be integrated, but are completely different. One does not depend from the other.

Cheers

Hi there,

JIRA is basically is Issue tracker, whereas Confluence is a wiki for collaboration. You have an option to buy both or only one. You can find out more about these two products from our website.
