JIra Automation with, epic, tasks and sub tasks

I would like to create an automation that, on a specific date, moves an epic to the Backlog status, automatically creates a task within that epic, and then creates subtasks within that task.

Hi @Elena Bertucco ~ you noted in your response to Dick that you don't have a problem creating an automation to move the Epic and create the new task.  If you already have that in place, my recommendation is to:

1.  Create another automation rule that is triggered on your new task creation (is there a specific component, label, team, etc. set in that Task that sets it apart from other tasks that you can incorporate into your rule conditions?).

2.  Add the new action, Create sub-tasks and fill in the desired fields you want

Hi @Elena Bertucco

Why move an epic backwards, or are you in fact referring to creating an epic at a certain date?

Kind regards,
Dick

I need to move an epic to the backlog because it concerns a report that we update on specific dates, and I don't want to create additional epics — I prefer to keep track of everything there

Thank you

Hi Elena,

It would be better to have the epic stagnant (can be in a separate epic board) and let the tasks under that epic be changing according to their progress.

The epic may remain in status "in progress", while for each specific date, you let an automation create a task under that epic that defines doing the update for that date.

Your automation trigger would be a scheduled trigger, it would create a story and set the parent link of that story to the epic-key.

That way, the story can undergo the open - in progress - done status changes, keeping the flow from left to right.

Kind regards,
Dick
