JQL - monthly in progress

Hello, I want to create a report for all issues that were in development per month during a year. For example, for August 2021 I created a query:

status was in ("In Development") after 2021-08-01 AND updatedDate >= 2021-08-01

I want to create the same for every month.

The problem with this query is that if the issue was in dev in Sep it will still take it into account. How do I make monthly breakdown for this KPI?

I hope "change to" along with "during" works.

status changed to "In Development" during ("2021-08-01 ", "2021-08-31 ")
