Java Exception seen when setting up Jira which prevents the Database being setup during installation

hello

I am seeing the following exception when setting up my Jira installation

HTTP Status 404 - Could not execute action [SetupDatabase]:Could not initialize class com.atlassian.jira.servlet.JiraCaptchaServiceImpl java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.atlassian.jira.servlet.JiraCaptchaServiceImpl .........

I am installing Jira on ubuntu and am using apache tomcat and mysql. i am also using the WAR version.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hello,

we have the same error after a fresh install.

We use a openSuse 12.1 VM and installed 5.0.6 from the .bin-file with no special configuration. I created a database/user using this guide: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA050/Setting+Up+a+MySQL+Database+on+Linux+for+JIRA

After the first step on the jira site (with successful testing of the db-connection) the error appears.

I tried to install 5.0.5 but the same problem. Actually we don't know what to do. Can anybody help us here?

Thre's something wrong with the classpath you're passing into your Tomcat (also, check the version is compatible)
