Jira Cloud to Server Migration

Hi All,

we are in the process of merging our two Jira instances together, Jira A = Cloud and Jira B = Server

From what I understand there is no direct way to do this and the correct process is to migrate Jira A into a temporary instance of Jira server, and then do a backup from the temporary instance and merge the required projects into Jira B as outlined in this article

https://mraddon.blog/2018/03/09/how-to-merge-some-jira-cloud-projects-into-an-existent-jira-server-instance/

there are a few questions which I am unsure of

  • most users from our jira instances have accounts on both Cloud and Server using the same format, however, there will be some users who have access to cloud and not to server. will these accounts be moved as part of migrating Jira cloud into the temporary instance or will they need to be created manually? This will also result in the temporary instance having users which are not on the live server instance so will users need to be created manually on the live server.
  • are there any potential plug-ins which can make this process easier such as a plug-in which can be installed on the server to accept a backup from the cloud instance.
  • Finally, if any of you have done a merger of cloud to the server what potential issues/sticking points should I look out for an be aware of.

Many thanks

Hiten

Hi,

1) Accounts will not be moved, in the temporary instance you will see " Unknown User (mail@company.com) " So you need create them before migration on destination instance.

2) From my experience is not good idea using for this process any plugin. Yes, it will take some time and more work, but you will be sure about all of steps.

3) I don't think you will have any serious problems or issues - except more options for users and different look. ;-) Migration from server to cloud could be worst. :-)
