Jira: How to migrate the custom fields along with the custom Field ID's from one instance to another

kishore nimma June 27, 2018

Can anyoe please suggest me how to migrate custom field along with the ID's.

I have tried with Configuration manger for Jira. In this custom fields are migrating but with a different ID. Due to this most of the workflows are breaking.

Is there any alternative for this?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

The problem is that you can not migrate id's of custom fields. Jira will create new id's for the custom fields.

As shared by @Alexey Matveev, JIra will create new IDs. Migration of Ids will only increase your trouble and introduce inconsistencies within the platform thus my suggestion is not to go ahead with migration of Ids using plugins or something like that, just migrate the custom fields(names)

Hi Kishore,

It should be possible using the configurator manager. But this is one of the many headaches with Jira.

Think that you cannot overwrite already exiting ids...if people have been creating and deleting the ids will be different. The best thing you can do is always try to keep preproduction and production in sync restoring backups from production to your test enviroment so they  are usually in sync.
