Are the Jira next-gen projects considered a beta for now?

I like next-gen a lot, but we do need a little customization. Will we eventually be able to edit workflows, or apply some customization to next-gen projects?

Next-Gen projects are seeing a lot of changes at a rapid pace. You can check out all the recently-shipped and upcoming changes here: https://www.atlassian.com/roadmap/jira-software

Currently you can add rules on next-gen projects which may get you part of the way with what you'd normally do in a workflow. On the slightly longer term (not listed as of this exact moment in the roadmap above) is larger workflow customization. One of our product managers for Next-Gen projects noted that in an article in addition to some more strategy about next-gen changes.

Hope that helps! While things are changing quickly, I've personally found Next-Gen projects to be an easy way to get started with work that doesn't need as much structure as you might add to a classic Jira project.
