Jira Software

Jeff Hutchins November 16, 2018

I have installed (in this order); Jira Core, Jira Software, and Jira Service Desk on a server for testing.

I am able access Jira via an URL and see Service Desk and Business (Core) under Projects but I'm not seeing Software listed as a project.

On the Versions and licenses page I show a license for Core and Service Desk but nothing for Software.

Is there something I need to do to get the Software app to show?

Jira Software is just added functionality to Jira Core, like Scrum and Kanban boards. If you go to Administration > Applications you can see what you have installed. In order to activate Jira Software you need a license for it.

Here is a good overview what the differences are between Jira Core, Jira Software and Jira Service Desk.

Thanks.  I am not seeing a license for Jira Software on the license screen nor the application on the appllications page?  No evidence of Jira Software???

If you do not see it, then the license key you entered was for Jira Core and not Jira Software. If you have a license key for Jira Software you can replace the exiting one with it it and that will enable Jira Software.

I have a license key for...

  1. JIRA Service Desk 3.15.3
  2. Jira Core 7.12.3

Jira Core was installed first...is Jira Software considered an add-on / plug-in to Jira Core? Does the Jira Software license replace the Jira Core license or should it have it's own license?

1 for Jira Core,

1 for Jira Service Desk,

1 for Jira Software

Apparently I missed something in the Jira Software install?

Can I simply reinstall?

Thanks.

It is the license key that controls what you get access to, so if you do not have a license key for Jira Software you will not get that functionality when you install Jira. Yes, you can replace the Core license key with a Jira Software one. If you have Jira Software you will also have Jira Core, so you could say Jira Software is an addition to Core.

If I have all 3 products; Core, Software, Service Desk, should I show 3 license (one for each product) or two; 1 for either Core or Software and a 2nd for Service Desk?

In that case you need two licenses, one for Jira Software (which includes Jira Core) and one for Jira Service Desk.

Got it…

I have installed all 3 but ‘Software’ is not showing up on the Versions & licenses page.

Is this an indication ‘Software’ did not install correctly?

Is there a way to confirm the install and/or get a license for Software?

If you paid for Jira Software the license key is available when you log on to My Atlassian. Just replace your Core license with the Software one and it should activate it.

We have purchased licenses but are currently using the Eval Server install.  Once we have completed we will populate with the purchased license.

I replaced the Jira Core license with the Jir Software (Data Center) license retreived f/the 'My Atlassian' site. Below is the response.

The license could not be installed.

The license is a Jira Data Center license and is incompatible with the existing installed license configuration. Please install a Server license. For information please see License compatibility.

License compatibility page explains some license are incompatible with each other (Core vs. Software/Data Center).

Service Desk:

SEN - SEN-L12658896

Product- Jira Service Desk (Server): Evaluation

Name - CI Architecture (Demo)

Software (Data Center):

SEN - SEN-L12644071

Product- Jira Software (Data Center): Evaluation

Name - CI Architecture (Demo)

Core (Server):

SEN - SEN-L12627246

Product- Jira Core (Server): Evaluation

Just noticed Jira Software does not indicate Server as the other two products do.

Obviously, I'm not getting it...what am I missing?

You have the wrong Jira Software license eval license, Data Center if different from Server. You can generate a new evaluation license for Jira Software Server from My Atlassian, make sure you select Server

Why am I showing multiple version of Jira Core:

SEN-L12658896 – Jira Service Desk (Server): Evaluation – CI Architecture (Demo) – 15 Dec 2018

SEN-L12644071 – Jira Software (Data Center): Evaluation – CI Architecture (Demo) – 13 Dec 2018

SEN-L12627246 – Jira Core (Server): Evaluation – CI Architecture – 09 Dec 2018

SEN-L12615105 – Jira Core (Server): Evaluation – CI Architecture – 07 Dec 2018

SEN-L12615089 – Jira Core (Server): Evaluation – CI Architecture – 07 Dec 2018

SEN-L12615015 - Jira Core (Server): Evaluation – CI Architecture – 07 Dec 2018

How do I remove the Data Center and the duplicate Core products?

You cannot remove a license, but you can archive it. Just expand the license and click Archive.Licenses.png
