In the past my Jira active sprint board would show the stories to move across the columns of the board. Now that i've created a new scrum board in the same project it suddenly shows all subtasks as separate items. This clutters the board and makes it hard to follow the status of a single story.
How do i hide subtasks on the board and only see the parent stories?
I would guess that on the original board, the subtasks were hidden by the board's filter or quick filter.
In general, the active sprint view displays subtasks as separate cards, and the backlog view hides them by default.
Interesting, it definitely wasn't a quick filter. But if it was a filter, do you know how I could apply one to the new board for the same effect? I didn't set up the old board so I not sure how this would have been done.

Sure, you just go to the board --> configure screen. There under the general tab, you should find the link to the filter on which your board is based upon. You can click the link and update the filter (add something like this: 'AND type != sub-task') to the JQL and save. It should do the trick and disregard all subtasks from this filter and board.
But, as general advice, I would suggest using a quick filter instead of updating the board's filter. This way, in case sometime in the future someone would still like to have subtasks on the board, it will be easier to display them in one simple click.

I added the filter but it still isn't hiding subtasks. This is the filter on a different board we have that does not have the subtasks showing (project = xxx ORDER BY Rank ASC). This doesn't seem to have anything that would filter out subtasks?
