Jira & ServiceNow Integration

suren May 2, 2023

Hi all,

I've got a requirement on JIRA integration with Service Now (without plugins).

I would be more thankful if we have step-wise approach.

Hi @suren

This is Majid @ Exalate.

If you take plugins out of the equation, then that would basically leave you with a couple of options only:

  1. Use the native connectors provided on the two platforms (depends on your subscription model)
  2. Build an integration yourself based on REST APIs provided by both systems.

It would also be interesting to know why you would like to take the no plugins approach? Is that a company dictated policy or is it related to security concerns.

Hope it helps.

Thanks

Majid

main reason to skip plugin is due to their company policy & security concern also.

can you share the step by step process for REST APIs

I do not really have a step by step for the API solution, as it would be a huge project in itself. I am not sure if you would even be able to Google such a guide, but here is a starting point mainly:

https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/platform/rest/v3/intro/#version

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/tokyo-application-development/page/build/applications/concept/api-rest.html

Try to start slow by reading a ticket from Jira and then trying to create it on ServiceNow using the APIs.

Also, just in case you are interested, Exalate can be hosted fully on-prem on your side i.e. you will keep all your data in house and do not need to share it to any external server e.g. https://docs.exalate.com/docs/install-exalate-for-jira-on-docker

Hope it helps!

Thanks

Majid

Hi @suren

OpsHub, an Atlassian partner, provides a free Community Edition that integrates Jira and ServiceNow without having to install any plugins. This is the only no-plugin, free solution you will probably get in the marketplace. OpsHub integration offers a complete GUI-based configuration without having to code anything. You can refer to Jira and ServiceNow integration documentation and a demo video to learn how OpsHub Integration Manager facilitates a bidirectional integration between Jira and ServiceNow.

Additionally, OpsHub Community Edition provides rich integration capabilities, like:

  • Integration Richness: In addition to integrating all basic fields, it also integrates attachments, web links, comments, mentions, traceability, and inline images.
  • User-friendly GUI: Users can configure integrations from a user-friendly GUI, in no time, without having to write complex scripts.
  • Field-level Conflict Management: It enables you to define a conflict resolution policy when data in your Jira contradicts the updates coming from the customer’s environment.

You can get started immediately with OpsHub’s Community Edition without requiring any call or license.

Thanks,

Brad

@suren hi. I know you mentioned "no plugins" for security reasons, but feel free to check ZigiOps' no-code connector at the Atlassian marketplace. It connects Jira & ServiceNow in minutes, bi-directionally, without saving your data. You can give it a try with our trial version (it's all free).
