Hello,
I've installed Jira server 8.5.8 on a Windows 2016 server using a Postgresql database (12.4.1).
Now I've set up a daily database dump and tried a restore.
In my opinion not all Jira information is stored in the database. I've done the DB dump and the I've put in new information in the existing project.
After that I've deleted the whole Jira DB, created a new DB with the same name and restored the dump. That worked fine.
Then I had a look in the Jira project. I expected not to find the latest information.
But the information where there - but only the headline - if I want to edit the step I get an error message like ".. is not available".
So my question is: How do I do a whole backup correctly?
Best regards
Jo
Your Jira instance is always a combination of your database data and the data in your Jira home folder. Things like attachments, avatars, etc. are stored in your Home Directory.
To have a full backup of Jira, it's best to take a database dump and a copy of the home directory. If you restore both, it should be correct.
Kind regards
Jorden
Hi Jorden
Thanks for the answer. I unfortunately expected that.
Have a nice day!
Greetings

The minimum back up set is actually just Database + Attachments (or the data directory that contains attachments in some systems) - the rest of the home directory is not strictly necessary. But having a copy of it makes restoring a system a lot faster and easier.
