Jira cannot find people on the site to add to team-managed projects

Carlos Cordova February 16, 2022

As an Admin to a team-managed project (not a Jira admin) when I try adding people to my project via Project Settings > Access, It doesn't find people that are already on the Atlassian site. Jira thinks they are not there and tries to send them an invite to join the site????

I'm also seeing this issue.

I had a user create a team-managed project but they can't lookup any users (who've I've confirmed all their licenses are correct) either.

@Carlos Cordova this issue is from a year ago, but did you ever figure out what was causing this? I'm experiencing a similar issue today. THX!

I tried everything recommended below, but no luck. I just let the admins add members to projects

And you are sure they already licensed Jira SW users? It is insufficient to have site access. They need to be licensed users.

Hi @Carlos Cordova

Yes, and...to what Jack suggests:

  • they also need to have logged in at least once (I believe) and
  • check to confirm you have the correct id value.  If they were added by email address the names you are searching for may not match what you expect until they update it in their profile.

Kind regards,
Bill

Yes they are all licensed, are active participants in other projects in the same site, so I have confirmation of all that. These are not new members.

Hmmm...Have you tried typing in the start of their email addresses to see if they appear in the list rather than their names?

Carlos Cordova February 17, 2022

Yeah I've tried, but no luck...

You it's funny because my Jira admin had no problem finding them by name.... But I wonder why would this be a limitation on team-managed projects for non-Jira admin users.

Thanks anyway for all the tips so far!

Well, I am stumped...

Checking the public backlog I did not find this symptom listed for any open defects.

If your are on a paid (not free) license, you may want to work with your site admin to submit a ticket to Atlassian Support to take a look: https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/
