Jira configuration failing to connect to SQL server 2016

using the jira configuration tool fails to connect to my SQL 2016 server with error:  Could not connect to the DB: Unknown server host name 'HOU-JIRASRV\JiraDEV'.  Remote connection works from ssms on my local machine with no problem.  What needs to be changed?

Hello @Thayle Byington, 

can you try configuring the DB with a DNS or IP ? It's possible that "HOU-JIRASRV" is not know to the server where you're installing Jira.

Can you give more detail on the server you're using for Jira ? Is it Linux or Windows, dedicated or VPS, ... ?
