Jira default assignee is not the project lead

I want to set the project's default assignee to a user other than the project lead. I don't see how to do that. I found a best practices page on assigning to multiple users, but nothing on how to do what I want. Can someone point me in the right direction, please?

You could define a component in the project. You can then specify anyone to be the component lead, and then set the component lead as the default assignee.
