Jira reports using Jaspersoft

Hi,

We are currently using Jira 4.4.4 and we are planning to create Jira reporting via Jaspersoft business intelligence. We would like to ask if this is supported by Jira and if it possible to have negative impact on Jira performance? Thanks in advance!

You might want to use the SQL for JIRA add-on combined with Jaspersoft. SQL for JIRA wraps the JIRA API by providing a standard SQL interface. Even more, SQL can be combined with JIRA JQL to make extremely powerful SQL queries,

There are a lot of advantages of using SQL for JIRA compared with direct access to the JIRA legacy database: easiness, performance, security, data coherence, etc.

A native JDBC driver for JIRA is packed within the add-on. So you can download it from JIRA and install it on the Eclipse Jaspersoft Studio to access to JIRA over the http protocol in order to make SQL reports for JIRA remotely.

Once the report is finished, you can pack it withing the jaspersoft engine and deploy it on JIRA  for reporting via servlet, for instance.

Alternatively, you might want to replace Jaspersoft with Birt to create reports for JIRA as currently Birt is much better supported than Jaspersoft on JIRA. Please have a look at: Birt Reports for JIRA.

I'm relatively new to both JIRA and Jasper Reports. Could you perhaps post your experiences with this combination? Have you been able to create Jasper Reports based on JIRA issues?

Erwin, speaking from the Jaspersoft side, the negative impact on any performance would likely be minimal unless you are doing some really major/expensive queries. We have customers that use our tools against their bug tracking systems quite a bit without issue - we actually do so within Jaspersoft as well.

I hope this at least answers most of your questions or concerns.
