Hello Team,
We are currently using Jira server software 7.3.8 version and we are trying to upgrade to 7.12.2
Can I directly upgrade the version from 7.3.8 to 7.12.2?? or should I go to any intermediate version in between for the upgrade.
Can someone from this community help us for the upgrade suggestions if any intermediate version is required?? if so which intermediate version should I upgrade to ?
Regards
Prasad
In theory, yes. In reality, I'd strongly recommend 7.6.9 then 7.12. The installer will upgrade everything automatically. Just make sure that you choose the option 'upgrade existing installation' when launching the installer.
If you are using any plugins please also check the compatibility of the plugins
To add to Mesut's comments regarding plugins, I've found it helpful to disable any plugin that says it is incompatible with the new version or compatible after updating. It avoids a lot of ugly exceptions in the logs during startup, and prevents any potential problems that an incompatible plugin might cause.
Also, please do not upgrade to 7.12.2, that version has a bug and should not be used. I recommend going to 7.12.3. I just upgraded my test environment yesterday (from 7.9.2) and it went smoothly, will be upgrading production tomorrow. The UI looks nice too. :)

Hi @Prasad
Need more information such as the size of the instance, your requirements to get you the right version.
But if your instance is large used as a critical issue tracking tool by many teams in your company, I would suggest you to go for 7.6.9 which is enterprise version, meaning you can go back to Atlassian for any bugs that are found in the software and you will get a bug release till EOL of the version.
Hope this helps!
