Hi ..

I want to add a special field on issues with name "depends on " and in the value I want to be able to add jira issue numbers, and it will be great if this can be intgerated live to show the status of these issues.

The idea here is I want be able to see dependencies between issues to help me in planning.

I also need to know I can manage relationships like start to start / finsih to start / start to finish , in jira.

Thanks

Regarding your first question, the 'Issue Linking' is exactly aimed at this. Read http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Linking+Issues

The linked issue status is also shown in the issue with the issue number striked out if resolved.

The second part of the question is not clear to me.

Hi Renjith ..

Thanks for your support...

Regarding the second part, say I have issue A and issue B with a finish to start relationship.

I don't want to be able to start working on Issue B until issue A is finished. How can I define these relations / workflows in Jira ?

Thaks..

That's not available OOTB. The linking gives information (you can use the relation 'depends on') to indicate that issue B cannot start till A is completed. But this is only an information which is to be used while starting Issue B. But nothing prevents from starting issue B as Jira does not do any restriction based on the Links.

The related issue in Jira backlog here https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-1383
